Shingles Contagious

Have you been infected with chicken pox when you were a kid? Then you are prone to get shingles. Singles are nothing but rashes which are painful caused when the chicken pox virus gets reactivated. Varicella is the virus which causes chicken pox. This common virus is acute and is contagious.

 

After you recover from chicken pox, this virus may remain inactive in certain people’s body which will get active after some

years. This virus once it gets activated will get into the nerves which in-turn causes rashes which are painful. These rashes are known as shingles. Shingles are also known as herpes zoster.

 

When a person contracts shingles the virus will be active and if the rashes break there are chances of the virus being passed to another person. Vaircella that causes shingles may get released in the air from the sores. The sores should be covered in such way that they absorb the fluid and also protects the sores.

 

People who get shingles often suffer from single attack and here is not much occasions where they reoccur. Shingles if on the face often affects the eyesight. Such condition is known as zoster keratitis. This should be carefully treated or will lead to lose of eyesight.

Shingles mainly infects older people. Sometimes it affects youngsters who have a very week immune system. Anyone who is above five could get infected by shingles. The immune system may slow down due to aging, illness, due to heavy medications for instance if a person is under chemotherapy. If the body’s immune system is slow and week the result will be shingles.

The body’s immune system may weaken due to age, if the person is under radiotherapy, chemotherapy, organ transplantation, age, HIV positive. There is no proper reason for the virus to get re-activated. If a person is under a stress it might also cause shingles.
