There is no proper cure for shingles. Treatment may prevent the complications and also shorten the length of the infection. As soon as you’re diagnosed with shingles stop scratching, this will only aggravate the pain and may turn into a scar.

The advanced stage of shingles is known as postherpetic neuralgia which may to more than a year. There are not many treatments available for this which is really effective. The initial treatment may consist of anti inflammatory drugs and anaesthetic agents. Another option would be cream which contains capsaicin can be applied on the area there is severe pain. In the postherpetic neuralgia stage there are chances of surgery where there may be removal of nerves which aids in blocking the pain.
For the ones suffering from a blistery rash which is large in size may affect the lungs, heart, joints, intestinal tract and pancreas. This can be treated with antibiotics and antiviral medicines.
If the person has rashes on forehead, nose and on eye may sometimes threaten the eyesight. This is known as herpes zoster opthallmicus and should be treated by consulting an ophthalmologist. Proper rest and antiviral medicines would be a better treatment for this. Shingles treatment varies upon the place of the complication.
