Shingles Contagious

Shingles is a very painful skin disease affecting a lot of people around the world. It is a viral infection caused by the herpes varicella- zoster virus which is also called simply Zoster virus. It is the same virus which causes Chicken pox.

In most cases shingles affects those who had chicken pox earlier. Most people experience chicken pox in childhood. Even though chicken pox is cured but the virus causing it does not die.

It remains in the body but in an inactive stage and it is the main causes of shingles.

 

Another causes of shingles is low immunity system of human body. Human body’s immune system prevents this virus from becoming active. However, when the immune system becomes weak, this virus may become active and cause shingles. Shingles is an infection of a nerve and the bodily skin around it. In most of the patients shingles appears in the head, neck, arms, legs, abdomen etc. It appears in the form of skin rashes which eventually take the form of blisters filled with liquid.

 

 

Shingles virus may also become active due to prolonged stress or illness which weak the immune system of the body.

 

Therefore it can be concluded that shingles is caused by a virus which may present in a large number of [people with history of chicken pox. But the virus only appears in the form of shingles in those persons who have a weakened immune system as a result of physical or mental problem. This disease is self limiting and may run a course of fourteen days also and can be very painful and discomforting. Most of the treatments only give temporary relief until the disease runs its course.
